BC's Municipal Pension Plan invests in a mix of asset classes to provide the best balance between potential returns and investment risk.
As at December 31, 2017, the investments in the pension plan were valued at more than $51 billion.
The board’s investment strategy and overall framework for managing plan assets are outlined in the Statement of Investment Policies and Procedures. The board approves the long-term asset mix policy, recognizing that diversifying investments is a key principle in managing risk.
Investments are held in a range of asset types (e.g., bonds, mortgages, equities, real estate, infrastructure and private placements) across industry sectors and global markets. The board oversees the plan asset management through its investment management agent, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation.
