The Municipal Pension Board of Trustees (board) is currently considering changes to the post-retirement benefits plan. An engagement survey was open through November 15, 2019.
Why are changed being considered?
Our data tells us that there are more members retiring than new, active members joining the plan. This means the amount of money available to fund benefits is not growing as fast as the number of members who want the benefits.
Over the long term, if this trend continues, this means that benefits will need to be adjusted either by decreasing benefits, or increasing member costs – or both.
The board is actively working to manage benefits so that any future changes are workable to members. Our goal is to improve affordability and support retired members in their ability to access quality extended health care benefits.
We want to continue providing access to post-retirement group benefits at a reasonable cost.
