Pension Life

Effective stewardship, lasting strength

Message from the board chair

As someone who has been part of the plan for many years, I understand how important a dependable pension is in retirement. It’s something I’ve appreciated personally, and as chair of the board of trustees, I’m proud to help protect that security for all members.

The board’s job is to look ahead and make decisions that support the plan’s long-term strength. Much of that strength comes from our diversity—of experience, investments, perspectives and the many members we serve across the province. Through effective governance, we help protect the plan’s stability, support sustainable growth and ensure it continues to meet the needs of members and employers across British Columbia.

And that diversity really shows in our retired membership. You are among a group that ranges in age from 50 to 105. Perhaps you’ve retired from a career in nursing, social work, therapy, emergency services, administration or one of many others. You live in communities across British Columbia—from Fort Nelson to Colwood, from the Village of Daajing Giids to Fernie. You are part of this diverse community of more than 135,000 retired members.

Much of that strength comes from our diversity—of experience, investments, perspectives and the many members we serve across the province.

We are proud to continue to offer a reliable lifetime pension to every single member. In 2025, the plan continued to perform well. Assets grew from $86.9 billion to $93.9 billion, supported by a one-year investment return of 7.6 per cent and nearly $6.8 billion in investment income. This steady growth reflects the value of a long-term investment approach designed to stay resilient through market ups and downs.

I invite you to join us for the plan’s annual general meeting, MPP: A Year in Review, taking place online on October 15, 2026. Early registration is open on the plan website. At the event, the board will share an update on the plan’s financial position and highlight key work from the past year. I look forward to seeing you there.
