Retiring from the Vancouver Fire Department in 2024, Gord served as President of the Vancouver Fire Fighters Union and the BC Professional Fire Fighters Association and Burn Fund until 2023. He also held a senior executive role with the International Association of Fire Fighters until 2024. Gord has represented firefighters on the Municipal Employees Pension Committee since 2008.

Throughout his career, Gord has negotiated collective agreements and championed legislation to address the health challenges faced by firefighters and all first responders, including presumptive legislation for cancers and mental health. Now retired, Gord remains focused on advocating for health and retiree benefits, including in his role as President of the Municipal Pension Retirees’ Association.

Gord was appointed to the Municipal Retiree Benefit Trust (MRBT) Board in April 2025.
